Our firm is excited to announce that attorney David Abney will be a keynote speaker for the upcoming Mid-Winter Meeting & CLE Seminar held by the Workers’ Compensation Law Section of the Kentucky Bar Association. The seminar runs February 5th – 9th in New Orleans as a breakout from the American Association of Justice conference. Mr. Abney will be presenting on February 8th.

A respected leader in the field of healthcare subrogation, Mr. Abney will speak about the important topic of ERISA liens and the challenge they pose for injury victims and attorneys alike. ERISA comes into play when a victim’s medical bills are covered by an employer-sponsored health plan. Many such policies assert priority recovery on the proceeds and waive equitable defenses.

Standing up against these plans requires experience navigating the complexities of subrogation law. In-depth knowledge of this frequently evolving field is essential for success. Without an effective (and proactive) strategy for pursuing a lien reduction, the client may be left virtually empty-handed.

Mr. Abney devotes his practice entirely to healthcare subrogation for injury victims. He is among the first attorneys to represent injury victims – not insurers – in this context. Whereas most other lien resolution services act as third-party neutrals, Mr. Abney serves as an advocate.

Resolving ERISA reimbursement claims has long been a cornerstone of Mr. Abney’s practice. He has helped thousands of clients address these claims.

With nearly two decades of experience in the subrogation field – including serving as Associate General Counsel for a large healthcare post-payment recovery service – Mr. Abney knows how to help clients keep more money in their pockets. His skill and experience in this niche area have made him a sought-after speaker on the subject of healthcare subrogation. He has also contributed to several editions of The National Subrogation Law Manual.

Based in Frankfort, Mr. Abney works with clients and personal injury law firms nationwide.
